Compare prices from multiple booking suppliers and find the best hotel deal in Sudbury.

Sudbury is a small market town in Suffolk, best known as Gainsborough's birthplace and as one of the settings that shaped Dickens' Pickwick Papers, where it appears thinly disguised as "Eatanswill". The centre still has genuine Georgian and medieval character around its three old market places, and the surrounding Stour Valley countryside is proper walking territory.

Be honest: there isn't much to actually do here beyond a pleasant wander and a look at the Gainsborough's House museum, and evenings are quiet. It works better as a base than a destination, with Colchester Castle and Hedingham Castle both a manageable drive away for a day out. With only seven hotels listed, choice is limited, so book ahead if you want to stay right in the historic centre rather than settling for something further out on the approach roads.
