Hotels in The Bund, Shanghai

The Bund is Shanghai's most famous waterfront — the mile of 1920s and 30s Western-style buildings facing the Pudong towers across the Huangpu River, the contrast of colonial grandeur and gleaming futurism being the defining Shanghai image. At night, lit from both sides, it is genuinely spectacular. The morning before 8am is excellent: fog off the river, no crowds, the light on the stone façades extraordinary. Staying here puts the Old City, the Nanjing Road pedestrian shopping street and the Huangpu ferry all within walking distance. For first-time visitors and short stays who want that image on foot, the Bund is the correct and obvious address.
