Hotels in Ayr

Ayr is a Scottish seaside town on the Firth of Clyde, best known as Robert Burns country: the poet was born just outside town in Alloway, and the connection is milked hard in local tourism, but that's part of the appeal if you're into it. It has a long sandy beach, a workaday high street, and a racecourse that draws its own crowds on meeting days. Glasgow Prestwick Airport is only a few miles up the coast, making Ayr a genuinely practical base for budget flights rather than a detour.

From here you're well placed for Culzean Castle along the coast and Ayr Cathedral in town, both easy half-day trips. Ayr itself is more functional than beautiful, with a faded Victorian resort feel rather than a polished one, and evenings can be quiet outside racing weekends. Stay near the seafront for the beach views and easiest walk into the town centre.
