Hotels in Hockley, Nottingham

Hockley is Nottingham's independent quarter — the neighbourhood east of the city centre where the clothes shops are vintage or locally designed rather than chain, the bars are in Victorian terraces rather than purpose-built superpubs and the flat whites come from coffee shops with actual character. The Lace Market bleeds into it; the Nottingham Contemporary art gallery (free, and consistently good) anchors the south end. For a Nottingham base that does not look or feel like every other British city centre, Hockley is the antidote. Evenings along Broad Street and Fletcher Gate are lively but human-scale. The city's best independent record shop is here, if you know where to look.
