Hotels in Northern Quarter, Manchester

The Northern Quarter is Manchester's independent heart — a post-industrial neighbourhood of brick warehouses east of the Arndale that has been the city's creative and alternative district since the early 1990s and has never quite been gentrified out of character. Oldham Street's record shops and cafés, the bars of Thomas Street, the covered Mackie Mayor food hall — the density of independent businesses is exceptional. The music scene that gave Manchester its international identity started in these streets. For a base that is central, walkable, characterful and serves a very good flat white at 7am, the Northern Quarter is the reliable choice.
