Hotels in Derby

Derby made its name on engineering rather than tourism: Rolls-Royce aero engines, Bombardier trains, and centuries before that, the world's first factory system at the Derwent Valley silk mill, now part of a UNESCO World Heritage stretch along the river. The city centre is a workaday mix of Victorian civic buildings, a decent indoor market, and a cathedral quarter that rewards a slow wander more than the retail streets do.

Derby isn't a looker in the way Bath or York is, and evenings outside the cathedral quarter can feel thin. With 18 hotels in our catalogue, choice runs from budget chains to a few characterful conversions. Stay in the cathedral quarter for the best restaurants and walkable access to the river and mills.
