Hotels in Southside, Edinburgh

Southside, taking in Newington and the streets below Arthur's Seat, is Edinburgh's studenty, good-value quarter, buzzing during the Fringe when George Square and the Pleasance become festival hubs. Nicolson Street and Clerk Street offer curry houses, cafes and the historic Festival Theatre; the wild slopes of Holyrood Park and the Meadows bracket it with green space. It suits budget-conscious travellers, families and festival-goers wanting central access at friendlier prices. Well served by buses along the main spine. Lively in August, calmer and residential the rest of the year.
