Hotels in Old Town, Edinburgh

Edinburgh's Old Town is one of Britain's most dramatic historic quarters — a ridge of volcanic rock crowded with medieval tenements, the Royal Mile running from the castle to Holyrood Palace, hidden closes and wynds, the Grassmarket below and views over the city from Calton Hill. It's the visual and historical heart of Scotland's capital, within walking distance of Arthur's Seat and the Scottish Parliament. The pubs and restaurants are excellent. For a first visit, there's nowhere better to stay, though the cobbles mean luggage arrives easier by taxi. Expect tourist crowds along the Royal Mile.
