Hotels in Fitzroy, Melbourne

Fitzroy is Melbourne's original bohemian neighbourhood and has never quite stopped being it — Brunswick Street's independent restaurants and bars have been doing the thing that every other city later copied, and the best of them are still exceptional. Gertrude Street carries a slightly more considered, gallery-heavy crowd; Smith Street marks the boundary with Collingwood. The tram grid puts the CBD ten minutes away. For travellers who want Melbourne's food and bar scene at its most interesting — and who are happy in a neighbourhood that feels genuinely lived in rather than curated — Fitzroy is where you eat, drink and return from late. It is, still, genuinely excellent.
