Hotels in Micklegate, York

Micklegate is York's historic southern entry — the medieval gatehouse through which every royal visitor to the city passed, with a long street of Georgian townhouses running from it toward the Minster, lined with some of the city's best independent restaurants and the old-fashioned pub tradition that York maintains with real conviction. Less crowded than the tourist centre around the Shambles; walking distance from the railway station on the other side of the walls. For a York base that puts you in a genuine neighbourhood street with excellent eating rather than a tourist-facing hotel enclave, Micklegate and its surrounding streets are the local choice.
