Hotels in South Bank, London

The South Bank is London's riverside culture mile — a traffic-free promenade linking the National Theatre, the Southbank Centre, the BFI and, a little east, Tate Modern and Shakespeare's Globe. The London Eye turns overhead, skateboarders own the graffiti-covered undercroft, and food and book markets set up beneath the bridges. It suits first-timers and culture-lovers who want to walk everywhere along the Thames, with postcard views of Parliament and St Paul's across the water. Waterloo station sits just behind for trains and Tube. Busy and buoyant by day, softly lit and romantic once the river-walk crowds thin.
